Blogging about knitting, day two

An Inspirational Pattern

Blog about a pattern or project which you aspire to. Whether it happens to be because the skills needed are ones which you have not yet acquired, or just because it seems like a huge undertaking of time and dedication, most people feel they still have something to aspire to in their craft. If you don’t feel like you have any left of the mountain of learning yet to climb, say so!

In the beginning of this year I decided to give myself a challenge that could give me new skills, a lot of knitting with colours and above all, many hours of fun and brain-excercise.

It turned out to be too much of a challenge, and I’ve had to put it aside for a while, until I’ve learned the more basic tricks of the pattern in question. I haven’t given up yet, and I still have allmost eight months to go, but I must admit it’s a very difficult project for me.

First of all it takes lots of yarn i different colours, all rolled up into two big balls, every tone carefully chosen and then added by hand. This process gave me great joy, I loved to handle the yarn, spending time wondering and testing until I felt it was just right.

The next step was to make a sample, trying out the pattern and see if my choise of yarn had been a mistake og not. The original recommended Kauni, but that would mean my own stash had to be increased even more… and my favorite brand allready had supplied me with a great amount of yarn in various wonderful shades, so the case was clear and I was happy the day I began.

My first attempt was NOT a succes, the next even worse, the third went the same way and now I’ve given it a rest…

My mood was a that point so gloomy, that new projects had to take over for a while, and more practice needed before I  once again pick up this years challenge. And what, you must be wondering, IS the challenge??

Ta da…

Ruth Sørensens beautiful Tusindfryd Shawl.

I love flowers in all kinds and forms, and therefore this is a must in my collection of homemade shawls. The fact that it takes two treads at a time, and that the shawl is knitted in the round, has given me more trouble than I had imagined, but maybe one day…

I went on knitting this one instead:

Karen Noe’s Dominoes in kauni. And yes..  I ended up buying Kauni anyway. I’m only human :)

  3. WOW! I've never seen that pattern, it's gorgeous. And the photos of yarn on the windowsill are so beautiful! I'd be tempted to leave them there if I were you. You have a very nice way with color.

  7. Hello Lori. Yes isn't it.. :) The patterne didn't cost much and can be bought and downloaded from Ruth's own webside

In fact I did leave the yarn for a while, just so that I could look at it. Thank you for your sweet comment.

Rigtig god fornøjelse i aften.
